Octopallooza: Day 1

They say the hardest part is getting started, right? If that's the case, I'm on a swell track to actually keep my Octopallooza commitment!

Last night, I ran - RAN, people! - for a quick 2 miles, down to the lake and back. It's not much, but I honestly feel like the worst part is over. I have worked myself up so much over not running this summer that I've started to hate the thought of anything running-related. I consider going out for a jog, but then I remember how out of shape I am, how lazy I am, etc. etc., and I talk myself out of going. Last night, I threw all the bad thoughts aside and did what needed to be done.

I took the pup with me last night, and I have to be honest - the run wasn't much of a run. We had to stop every, oh, 8 steps for the obligatory "sniff test," and she'd come to a screeching halt anytime a loud car, bicyclist, person - you name it - breezed by. On the mile home, however, she flew like the wind. We pretty much sprinted the entire mile, and I was not so encouraged to learn that my 9-pound dog with 4-inch legs runs much faster than I do.

Tonight: abs, core work, lunges, arm work. I'm planning to attempt all of this in my basement with free weights and stairs, as I have not yet figured out the gym situation. I've done this before and I know I can get a good workout with what I own. People were buff before fancy gym equipment, right? I like to trick myself into thinking I need machines to get the job done, but I'm not letting that excuse inch its way in tonight.

Remember the five minute rule... Try it for five minutes. If you aren't feeling it, go home. Be positive :-)

and who cares if you walk more than run. You are OUT there getting it done!

Good job on the run. I know the feeling of not training hard and all that all summer...I'm trying to build myself back up and I need to figure out a good plan myself...unfortunately I failed Octopallooza day 1...sigh...

I used to run with Scooter, but it was more like a circus, so we don't do that anymore.
