My Cure-Alls

Jess had excellent advice for dealing with my down-in-the-dumps syndrome: "Beer. Lots of Beer." So I took that advice, but I substituted wine for beer, and, really, I think it worked just as well. We downed a bottle with dinner last night, sat out on the porch, and enjoyed the perfect weather. It was the decompression I needed. I'm not yet feeling 100% today, but I'm getting there.

I finished work way before I thought I would be able to last night, so I celebrated with a quick 2-mile run. The run itself blew. My shins HURT, people. HURT. I've exhausted that issue on this blog so I won't bore you all anymore. Bottom line: maybe my non-religious May running schedule will be a good thing, as it will give my legs some time to rest.

The run was not a complete loss, though. The lilacs are blooming in Minnesota! Lilacs rank very near the top of my Favorite Flower List -- a very important list because there's something about fresh flowers that just makes me abundantly happy. They, like booze, can lift me out of any major funk. Anyway, there is about a 3-block stretch down Summit Ave. in St. Paul where the boulevard is lined with lilac bushes, and there is a running/walking path right through the center of these gorgeous buds. It smells great, looks great -- it is, by far, my favorite springtime place in this city. It's only 3 blocks, but it's worth it.

I know I should probably leave these flowers untouched for all to enjoy and blah blah blah, but I'm feeling shitty lately. So, like any selfish citizen, I swiped a bunch of flowers for my home and my work, and I'm enjoying them right now. Hey - it's city property. I pay my taxes. I'm entitled to a few pick-me-up bouquets, aren't I?

Ahhhh. Beer and flowers. The cure to all the worlds woes :-) As a budding tri, I have to learn to do a little less with the later, even though my body craves it after a hard day/week/month.

Sorry to hear your shins are still giving you problems. Definitely check your shoes and remember those pointers on form. You can beat this. Thanks for the well wishes.

You are too funny! Mmm..beer! Such beautiful weather screams drinking and eating outside!

I hope the shins get better! I agree with Wes, check the shoes. And don't forget to stretch... a lot. even after a 2 mile run!

Ahhhh, I miss lilacs -- that smell was always a sure sign that spring had officially arrived in MN. You deserved 'em; glad you took 'em.

As per the wine: yes, that works just as well to soothe your pain, but the headaches, man, wine gives me a wicked headache the next day.
