Yeah, so the pep was gone this morning. Whatever. I'm not beating myself up over it. We were painting the kitchen till midnight, and 5:22 a.m. just wasn't happening. I figure the painting counts as upper-body cross training, if nothing else.
My mission today: find a half-mary training program and create a schedule. I need a concrete goal in front of me again. Being able to check something off, like a set distance, gives me the motivation I need to get out of bed at such an early hour. Otherwise, it's way too easy to convince myself I can skip out on a run.
On a totally non-running note, does anyone watch "America's Got Talent?" We had it on while painting last night and OH MY GOD. It's horrible!! Human-interest wise, I've gotta admit, it's captivating. I mean, trying to understand how and why people have time to sit in their basements and come up with this shit is a day-long thought stream in itself. But this is all outweighed by the judges being complete morons. The only way I could watch Jerry Springer and David Hasselhoff on screen together is if I were deaf and blind.
I am sad for America after watching this. Honestly. I am beginning to think America -at least America's TV moguls - do not, in fact, have talent. Not as if I'm some moral compass, and not as if I'm denying that I also made fun of the overweight Elvis impersonator who looks like he spends too much time doing not-so-good things online, but I wouldn't base an entire show's ratings on this meanness. They're pushing the Idol envelope way over the edge, making Simon look like Mr. Nice Guy.
I just don't think we need to encourage more cattiness or more judgemental attitudes with TV shows. It seems like that's the basis for every show lately. Plus, I think it's an incredibly cheap way to get ratings. They're appealing to people's laziness and stupidity, and it makes sad to think that there are so many people that buy into that. Actually, what makes me sad is that I was thinking this the entire time, but I still didn't change the channel. What is it about crap TV that sucks us in?
Man, this was not intended to be a lecture or a diatribe on television content. I sound like Miss High And Mighty and trust me, I am far from it. Maybe I am just so mortified that I spent two hours of my life watching The Hoff that I need to lash out and justify this mortal sin. As penance, I am committing myself to a day of CNN to smarten my brain cells back up.
Do not follow where the path may lead. Go, instead, where there is no path, and leave a trail.

I am the same way with a schedule. But, I must say I have been pretty good about getting my running in lately. I guess I don't have to get up at 530 in the morning to get it done though. Good luck finding the appropriate schedule!
I have done A LOT of home improvement stuff, and trust me, it COUNTS as cross training!
bad tv is like my oxygen.
i keep my brain cells alive by also doing crossword puzzles.
I found your blog through 21 Days. It's pretty interesting.
And I agree -bad TV is amazing. I like Beauty and the Geek, America's Next Top Model, and Project Runway! Along with a few others, lol.
