Do not follow where the path may lead. Go, instead, where there is no path, and leave a trail.

Mother Nature Hates Runners

Well, it's an exciting day in blog world. I got a link! Thanks to Jess for the traffic. Glad to know someone's reading :)

I am supposed to be working right now, but I keep checking in on the Boston Marathon Web site. Not as if I think I will ever run Boston (but who knows, I guess), but I can't get my mind off the fact that people are actually out there running in this crap! I have a friend stranded at JFK right now and he e-mailed with his own disastrous stories - at least he's in an airport. I can only imagine what it's like bearing these elements while trying to run 26.2. So, to anyone out there running today, I'm sending positive vibes your way ...

This is also making me think about my own marathon goal. Right now, I am planning to make my first marathon the Whistle Stop in Ashland, WI. It's a fairly flat path along the Lake Superior shoreline. It's not a huge marathon so I wouldn't be trampling over people, and the fall scenery should be beautiful. Only worry: it's on Oct. 13, and October in Wisconsin is either beautiful or horrendous. You just never know. Do I want to run my first marathon in the snow/rain/cold/WIND? Or do I want to risk it for the chance to run among the beautiful fall scenery in Northern Wisconsin? Hmmm ... something to think about. I have a few weeks before I have to decide for sure. Chances are, I'll go through with it. If not, there are plenty of other marathons to choose from in these parts that come a few weeks earlier and wouldn't pose such weather risks.

Krista, great blog! Thank you for your comment regarding Rachael Ray. I watch her show every now and then but never seem to follow along fast enough to get the recipes. I should probably check the website...or buy the book.

I just posted a link to your blog. I'm looking forward to reading more about your progress towards your first marathon. Sounds like you are doing the same thing I am with lots of cross-training at the gym too.

October is a chancy month. I'm running Chicago this fall, and Chicago in October is also dicey in terms of weather.
