Do not follow where the path may lead. Go, instead, where there is no path, and leave a trail.

OUCH!

OW is all I have to say today. I had serious reservations about running yesterday since the pain in my shins only increased as the day went on (damned high heels, I blame you). But the guilt got to me, and by 7 I had laced up my shoes for 2-3 miles. I made it less than a mile. By the end, it felt like shards of glass cutting into my shins/knees/feet.

I came home, took drugs, tied two ice packs tightly to my legs, propped up my feet and enjoyed watching Sanjaya get the boot. After Idol, I filled a HOT bath with Epsom salts and soaked for a long time. This morning, more drugs and ice packs at work. We'll see if my legs are still attached to my body by the end of the day...

This shin stuff is pissing me off. I've been following most of the suggestions I've been receiving, but to no avail. (well, some avail. I feel OK on the long runs -- it's the runs after the long runs that are killing me). If things don't improve, I guess new shoes are my next best option. This pair is only 6 months old, but maybe I've put on more miles than I realize.

I had shin splints in high school -- not fun. And actually, probably the best thing you can do (which totally sucks) is to take a hiatus from running. Or, try running on softer surfaces. Do you have trails near by?

I hope the shins get better! I too, remember getting really bad ones when I first started out last spring. I think it was quite a while (a few months) before my legs became stronger and they have (for the most part) disappeared...

I do agree with Jess though. Taking a hiatus or running on softer grounds works. I remember running in the grass along side the sidewalk. It was a harder workout, but easier on the joints with less impact.

Keep icing though! And lots of stretching!
